Ashley Jones graduated with her associates in Applied Science in Business from OSU IT April 26, and she will graduate with her high school diploma at the end of May.

Jones took advantage of Career Tech’s Cooperative Alliance while attending Central Tech through her junior and senior year of high school.

“This has been more of a good opportunity than anything else,” said Ashley Jones, a senior at Drumright High School and Central Tech’s Business and Information Technology program. “I will graduate with 52 college credits.”

Cooperative Alliance has allowed student to not have to choose between skill training and a college career.

“I think its one of the reasons to come to Central Tech,” said Athena Frank Business and Information Technology Instructor. “Even if they don’t go on to college, they can use that associates degree to advance their career as soon as they finish the program.”

The course work parallels courses a student would take at Central Tech and other technology centers in the state.

“It’s really the same curriculum they would be doing anyway, its just through here they get the college credit,” said Frank.

Students must qualify for the courses just like if the were enrolling in courses at one of the Cooperative Alliance schools.

“High school students must have a GPA of 2.5, an ACT Plan score of 15 or an ACT score of 19 to qualify to enroll in the courses,” said Dr. Linda Hubbard, Cooperative Alliance Coordinator at Central Tech. “We host an enrollment day on both campuses once a semester to get students enrolled.”

The program is a real benefit to students at a real cost savings.

“I decided to come [to Central Tech] and I didn’t know what to expect and I fell in love with it. It’s 8 dollars per credit hour, which is amazing,” said Jones.
